This first edition of Mervyn Peake's rendition of 'Alice' was brought to Baz by another bookbinder and a member of the PBFA, who asked him to create a special pictorial slipcase to protect the book.

Rather than a standard slipcase Baz opted to fashion a boxed-slipcase with a felt-lined drawer.

Each side of the slipcase had an intricate leather onlay. The 'Humpty' onlay is made up of 170 individually-cut, and thinly-pared, pieces of very small hand-stained leather, whereas the 'Mad Hatter's Tea-Party' onlay has approximately 375 individual leather onlays.

The finsihed result took Baz approx 75 hours to complete, and he loved every minute of it!!
